One of Bursa's distinguishing characteristics is that it pioneered the establishment of Organized Industrial Zones throughout Türkiye.

In 1961, a consulting firm conducted a nationwide study on behalf of the State Planning Organization to identify a suitable location for an industrial zone. This research was carried out particularly in the cities of Bursa, Istanbul, Adapazarı, Adana, Mersin, and Zonguldak.

As a result of these studies, Bursa was determined to be the most suitable city in Türkiye for such a project, and this recommendation was presented in a report. The Bursa Organized Industrial Zone became the first implementation of its kind in the country.

To maintain the high standards of service within Bursa OIZ, all necessary infrastructure maintenance services are provided. In addition, waste collection, firefighting, and ambulance services are offered to companies free of charge.

Following the General Assembly held on 10 October 2012, the zone was separated from the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) and transitioned to a governance structure formed by the zone participants. Consequently, its name was changed from BTSO Organized Industrial Zone to Bursa Organized Industrial Zone.

Within the provincial boundaries of Bursa, there are 17 Organized Industrial Zones that have acquired legal entity status under the Organized Industrial Zones Law.
