We want to light a spark for transition to high technology

“Innovation and Design Meetings” organized under the leadership of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) to enable Bursa to become a center of innovation, design and fashion is continuing.

During the opening ceremony of the “International Research & Development Project Market” Mr. İbrahim Burkay, President of the Board of Directors of BTSO and Uludağ Textile Exporters' Association (UTIB), said that the project market that was first initiated in 2009 at UTIB is a role model for all sectors. He added that the efforts are to enable Bursa to become one of the leading cities in the world with more research & development, innovation and design.  

Mr. Burkay declared that the project market initiated with 67 projects in 2009. This year almost 400 projects were received with the support of more than 50 academicians and researchers from 24 countries. He added that they would like to light a spark for transition to middle-high and high technology. He said “We are one of the six countries in the world that manufacture and export ready-made garments and home textile products. We should be able to reach the same level in the technical and functional textile, as well.” 

Research & Development Project Market organized by the UTIB within the framework of the Bursa Innovation and Design Meetings brought the national and international professionals of the sectors together. Functional textile projects of the academicians and the entrepreneurs were of interest. Projects on finishing to prevent cigarette smell in the home textiles, new methods of hydrogen peroxide bleaching, natural dye manufacturing for ecological textile, fabric used to breed organic sea products in sweet and salty water, car seat covers against dirt and mold and textile products generating heat that could be used in physical therapy were among the most interesting projects. The projects were awarded some prizes.

Within the framework of the International Research & Development Project Market world-famous designer William Myers delivered a speech on the development of biological innovation in the textile sector.
